Branded search queries contain your brand or clearly associated product names. Analyse them separately from generic searches. Search Console shows your own website’s Google visibility, not the complete demand for the brand.
What are branded search queries and branded keywords?
“Examplebrand pricing” combines a brand with a selection criterion. “Design approval software” describes a category instead. Both searches may lead to the same provider, but start at different points in the decision. Branded search, branded keywords and branded search queries refer to these brand-related searches.
A brand mention is an appearance in a text or answer. Nobody needs to have searched for the name. Conversely, a brand search can follow a recommendation, invoice, event or advertisement without any prior AI contact.
This article covers search behaviour. It is not a guide to checking trademarks in a legal registry. A distinctive name can simplify analysis, but does not replace a legal trademark assessment.
Step 1: Build a useful brand filter
List the official name, observed spelling variants and clearly associated product names. Do not add every imaginable misspelling. Short or ordinary words may include unrelated queries, so inspect actual matches first.
Open the correct website property and the search-results performance report in Search Console. Set search type, country and date range, then add a query filter. A custom regular-expression filter can cover several spellings when you understand its matches. The official filtering guide explains the options.
An entirely fictional expression is examplebrand|example brand|example-brand. It matches one of those variants within a query. Do not copy it unchanged for your business. Inspect matches that accidentally include another brand or a different meaning.
Keep the expression, date, included names and exclusions in your worksheet. If you change the filter later, earlier and later figures may no longer be directly comparable.

Step 2: Separate brand searches by the task they represent
| Query | Likely task | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Examplebrand pricing | Evaluate an offer | Are pricing basis and conditions clear? |
| Examplebrand alternative | Compare options | Which limitation or strength matters? |
| Examplebrand login | Open an existing account | Do not count as a new potential buyer |
| Examplebrand instructions | Use the product | Does documentation answer the task? |
| Examplebrand reviews | Assess trust and suitability | Verifiable information, not invented reviews |
This classification is a working hypothesis. A review search can precede a purchase or follow a problem. Inspect samples and landing pages before presenting all brand queries as demand from new customers.
For software providers, these questions connect with the use-case and integration pages in the SaaS SEO guide. For a retailer, product names, shop brand and manufacturer differ: a manufacturer search is not automatically demand for your shop.
Step 3: Read clicks and impressions within their limits
The performance report distinguishes impressions, clicks, click-through rate and average position. An impression of your site for a brand query does not count everyone searching for that brand. A click is neither a unique new visitor nor a sale.
Compare sufficiently informative periods of equal length with the same filters. Record holidays, campaigns and major website changes. When counts are small, a few additional clicks do not establish a stable trend.
Google notes that query filtering and anonymised queries affect totals. Filtered branded and non-branded figures therefore need not add up to the unfiltered total. Label any calculated ratio with its exact denominator; do not call it market share. Both available and missing data belong in the interpretation.
Brand SERP: what do people see when they search for your brand?
A brand SERP is the search results page for a branded query. Search Console reports how your own website performs in search. A results inventory examines the visible surroundings: your pages, third-party publications, profiles or an information panel. These are different questions and need separate records.
Start with one clear query, such as your official brand name. Record the search engine, exact wording, date, country or location, language and device. Include sign-in status and any apparent personalisation. Google explains that search results can vary with context. A private browsing window therefore does not provide a universal view.
| Visible component | Record | Possible follow-up |
|---|---|---|
| Your website | URL, title and displayed snippet | Do the offering and destination fit the query? |
| Official profile | Platform, profile URL and current description | Are the name, website and offering accurate? |
| Third-party publication | Publisher, URL, date and main claim | Does it identify the right business and support the claim? |
| Information panel or Business Profile | Type of display and disputed field | Is there a relevant correction process? |
| Advertisement or AI display | Visible labelling and content | Keep it separate from conventional organic listings |
Open important destinations. A search snippet may be shortened or outdated, so inspect the original statement before deciding that a correction is needed. Record “not observed” when a component is absent. That observation does not demonstrate permanent removal or a penalty.
A fictional finding might be: “The official profile still links to an earlier product address.” Your first task would be to check that link and update it where appropriate. Another brand landing page would not solve the problem. For mistaken identities, use entity SEO; for an existing panel, follow the Knowledge Panel correction process. Assess third-party editorial claims against their actual evidence.
For a later comparison, use the same query and similar conditions, and record meaningful differences. Search Console adds performance data for your website, not a complete inventory of everyone’s results. Nalqerio’s authorised API samples are another separate evidence source, rather than an automatic brand-SERP monitoring feature.
How do branded search and AI visibility relate?
An AI answer may be a touchpoint: it can introduce a name, raise a doubt or link directly to a source. The same later brand search could also have been prompted by something else. Two rising curves do not establish causation.
Keep three observations separate: Google brand queries, evidenced AI mentions and traceable enquiries or purchases. The AI traffic guide covers known referrals and unknown origins. Share of voice describes a comparison inside a defined sample.
Nalqerio documents selected authorised API responses and available sources. Search Console data in this workflow is collected separately; no automatic Nalqerio integration is claimed. Avoid concluding that additional AI mentions caused specific sales unless your study design supports that conclusion.
What decision can you make from the findings?
If people search for prices but the pricing page leaves conditions unclear, improve that page first. If sign-in queries dominate, examine the returning-customer journey. If data is scarce, check spellings, property and filters before starting another content series.
Make the next edit small and specific: “Explain the pricing basis and team limit clearly on the pricing page.” Record when it was published and which query group you will observe afterwards.
Good GEO reporting keeps different data sources side by side. Economic conclusions also require costs and attributed returns; the ROI guide explains that step. A brand search alone does not create measurable revenue.
Frequently asked questions
Does Search Console show total branded search volume?
No. It reports your website’s performance in Google Search. Missing visibility, privacy limitations and report mechanics prevent it from representing complete brand demand.
Are branded keywords irrelevant to new customers?
No. Pricing, prerequisites and alternative searches may belong to a buying decision. Keep sign-in and support queries separate.
Should each spelling of our brand have its own page?
No. Use a consistent brand and clear product pages. Variants help analysis but rarely justify near-identical landing pages.
Are brand SERP and branded search the same thing?
Branded search refers to queries containing a brand. A brand SERP is the results page shown for such a query. Assess search demand, your website’s performance and the visible results separately.
